THEODORE LOUW
Reminiscing
Yes in the days when our beloved city was buzzing and exciting. You had Kapitans eatery next door, where Madiba and OR Tambo dined, R Shiba and Kort Tailors, Babu of Atlantic Records, the Star bioscope and the iconic Diagonal Street Market. In President street was the Bus terminus for Bulte and Riverlea and Pritchard street Kliptown, Nancefield, Mid-Ennerdale and across the street Coronationvile, Newclare, ‘Westren’, and Bosmont. Things were cheap then, but remember we were paid a pittance. R6.99 for a LP from R45 per week (with matric) was a lot of money. So we had to save to buy Florsheims which cost a weeks wages at R42. So the tailor made trousers and Arrow shirts came at great sacrifice.
